Comfy Spot

Comic is live! Thanks for putting up with my ridiculous filler while I was working. XD

If the rest of the world valued naps as much as I do, then there would be little... like... nap-pods everywhere.
They'd be about as common as pay-phones used to be, and they'd be like reclining chairs, except in a little bubble/room/booth/stall that you could close and lock, and you'd pay to use it -- maybe like, 50 cents and it would wake you up in half an hour, a dollar and it'd wake you up in an hour? So wherever you were, if you needed to run off and nap, you totally could.

Naps are an integral part of my functioning, man. I don't know how other people go without them.

(Oh wait. Caffeine.)

As always, voting for Today Nothing Happened gets you an extra comic! :"D This one will teach you why you should think hard before naming your mechanical devices.

So, we get fat triceratops and fat puppies when the comic is late, but not a fat Shazz? ;-)

In her defense, it is really, really hard to imagine a fat Shazz :)

Ya know, I was reading AWW waaaaaaaay before I was reading TNH, and then I read TNH and then after a looooooooooong time I realized that they were the same person drawing *facepalm*. Before I just wondered why they had similiar styles.

Ahahahaha, I'm kinda impressed that you noticed the similarity before realising I did both! Though there have been a few clues in TNH! XD

i remember quite a while back hearing of place (think it started in NewYork, not sure if there is more of em) they give you a place to take a nap, you pay, go into a dimmly lit room, get a comfy chair, take nap, after 20 minutes chair vibrates to wake you up (no noise so doesnt wake everyone else up).
20 mins because after that you wake feeling refreshed but longer naps and you wake up feeling groggy

So they say! Reason being that if you're awakened in the middle of your REM cycle, then you've been roused from your deepest sleep, and you won't really feel refreshed if you didn't get your full REM-sleep.

However, I've messed up my REM cycle enough that I can dream during a 10-minute nap, so I can do anything from 10 to 15 to 30 depending on how sleep-deprived I am! (More than 30 is iffy for me, though.)

I saw these in Vancover

Basically what you described, but they were waaaaay too out in the open. The animal in me likes to hide when I sleep. Other airports have more substantial (expensive) pods, like little rooms.

$9.50 for a nap?! *WAY* too expensive! For $1.25 or so I can get a 20 oz. bottle of liquid hyperactivity. (Cola or something else with caffiene.) Yeah, I'm cheap! So what?

a simple can o soda doesnt work for everyone even with energy drinks people eventualy get a tolerance. Once knew a guy, when he needed to stay up late would drink two redbulls

Oooo, something like that, yeah! SCAD had nap-pods that were shaped kinda like that, but closed more? If I'm remembering correctly. I tried one out once and it worked pretty well!

Commentor -- it's possible for some people to avoid a tolerance by not keeping it constant! I try not to use caffeine to stay up more than once a week, less if I can manage, and it's worked pretty well in keeping my tolerance down. I know I was starting to get a tolerance in college, but I avoided the stuff for months afterwards, and managed to stave it off a little longer!

Though yeah, I've also known people who needed Red Bull or something similarly caffeinated just to function normally, much less stay up! XD I'm trying REALLY HARD not to get to that point, haha.

The sleep-pod thing is something our society really needs to adopt, because more and more studies show that staying awake for 16 hours straight (that's IF you get 8 hours of sleep) is really not natural, and that we're actually far more productive if we can nap (also, people are more and more sleep DEPRIVED, which becomes a safety issue).

Hmmm... Maybe Kirby should become Yarn Kirby? Less eating, more turning into cool soft things?
Also, I wish I could nap in public-ish spots sometimes... I can't sleep unless I'm very familiar with my surroundings.

So what was wrong with the car? My guess is radiator leak. Don't let them sell you that pre-mixed 50/50 antifreeze, it's a rip-off. Urg, I'm giving old man car advice.

Yup! They had to replace the radiator, hup. 'Twas a sort of expensive repair, but less expensive than buying more antifreeze every week!

The comic book store I work at, our vacuum cleaner is a Kirby, which we all think is just blisteringly appropriate because of, of course, Jack Kirby. It's our little homage to the King.

I envy your nappability, Shazz.

Regarding the mechanical devices and their names...I have two external hard drives. One of them is a billion years old (okay, more like six, but that's pretty old for an external hard drive that travels as much as mine has), is very large (such a behemoth it made Goto literally gape first time he saw me lug it out), black, has to have an external power source, has so far been pretty indestructible although I probably just jinxed it, and when it's on a big green circle lights up in the front. It's called the Death Star.

My other one is a sleek, skinny little new thing with considerably greater memory and speed, and it's bright blue. I named it Mitth'raw'nuruodo. (Not Thrawn, mind you: Mitth'raw'nuruodo.)

Because, yes, I am that much a Star Wars geek. ;)

Also, it is great fun when other people use the latter drive and ask me what it's called so they can bring it up on their computer. Watching their faces when I tell them its name is delightful.

Ahhhhh that is awesome! Though I had to look that name up, clearly I am not geeky enough!

And I thought people's reaction to Mr. Mxyzptlk was fun, haha! That one wins, for sure. XD

Okay, that is awesome. I still can't pronounce that little imp's name, no matter how many different ways people have told me to say it... I still say "Mix-ull-pit-kll" even though I know that in no way accounts for the proper letters. Le sigh...

(And few can out-geek me in Star Wars, so your having to look up Thrawn should, I feel, in no way impact your geekitude. Just FYI.)

Eatin' antifreeze? sounds like ya got a coolant leak!
I can sympathize, when i first got my car on the road it decided to leak around the radiator cap. Bought a whole new radiator only to find out the cap for that particular model needed the tabs bent inward to hold. what a waste of $100.

As for naming Mechanical devices, I keep it simple. my computer is "The Tower", my car is either "305" or "The Camaro" :D

Hup, mine deffffinitely cost like $400, haha! The whole radiator had to be replaced, gaaaah. BUT I am so glad it is taken care of totally (and frankly, given how cheaply I was able to get the car, I really can't complain. XD ).
